Asbestos Surveys can be required for a number of reasons, both for domestic and commercial properties. Some survey requests are prompted by a Factory Inspector’s visit to commercial premises, where management have been unaware of their legal requirement to have an Asbestos Register. Others are requested so as not to delay property repairs or rebuilding works, or as a precaution before buying a property. There are two types of asbestos survey - Management Surveys and Refurbishment/Demolition Surveys.
Management Asbestos Surveys are the most straightforward type of survey, used to make building users aware of where asbestos is likely to be so that its condition can be monitored. If materials are deteriorating or if damage is caused to the materials, action can then be taken.
Refurbishment or Demolition Surveys are required when asbestos-containing materials are being disturbed as part of a refurbishment or demolition project, or other types of construction work. This should take place whenever construction work is being planned, and is a much more detailed survey, during which samples will be taken to determine the type, location and extent of all asbestos materials.
AES Marconi can provide both of these surveys, and do so multiple times each year.
The report prepared following the survey will state if there is asbestos present, its type and its condition. Having a survey gives protection to those using the property, be they family, occupants or workmen, from accidentally exposing themselves, or anyone else, to asbestos fibres. This report will provide all of the information necessary to draw up an Asbestos Register, which we can do for you; as well as helping you to formulate a regular Asbestos Inspection regime.
